Canadian Innovative Cancer Technologies – Video Conference

癌症不單是造成台灣人口死亡的第一病因,更是全球造成死亡的主要病因之一,成為全球化的共同議題。包括政府、研究機構、醫院及藥商都致力於推展癌症防治、早期發現及癌症治療等相關技術。為促使加-台兩方癌症研發專家相互交流與合作,由加拿大駐台北貿易辦事處與經濟部生物技術與醫藥工業發展推動小組主辦,協同 Alberta International & Intergovernmental Relations 及財團法人生物技術開發中心,於2010年8月5日假台大醫院國際會議中心202會議室舉辦『加拿大創新癌症技術視訊會議』。 會中邀請經濟部生物技術與醫藥工業發展推動小組主任陳啟祥博士與我們分享台灣癌症創新與發展現況。

加拿大方面,我們邀請到加拿大國家研究院(NRC)副院長Dr. Szumski、MDS Nordion資深副總裁 Dr. Covitz,以及Alberta Health Service – Cross Cancer Institute 主任 Dr. McEwan,就癌症的早期發現、研發與創新技術等議題相互分享與交流,MDS Nordion 更針對台灣所重視的肝癌治療進一步討論,並提出加-台兩方可能共同合作的領域與方式。 此視訊會議邀集加台重量級講者與會,並提供一個研發及商業化合作的平台,進行交流,實屬難得。

由於會場容納人數有限,僅50位名額,全程免費 (全程以英文進行),以報名的先後順序為依據,額滿即不受理,敬請見諒。 請務必於7月31日(星期六)前完成報名。

Dr. Roman Szumski, National Research Council (NRC)

Dr. Roman Szumski , a medical doctor and pathologist by training, is recognized as a visionary leader and an innovative manager with unique experience in building strategic public-private sector partnerships in the life sciences sector. He was the founding CEO of Calgary Laboratory Services, and more recently Vice-President (Science & Technology) of MDS Inc. During his years at MDS headquarters, Dr. Szumski held executive-level responsibility for scientific assets of the firm, and led the development of new business initiatives in cancer therapeutics and personalized medicine. Dr. Szumski is currently responsible for five NRC institutes and he is the head of NRC’s largest horizonal research program, the Genomics and Health Initiative.

Dr. Peter Covitz, MDS Nordion

Dr. Peter Covitz joined MDS Nordion in 2008 from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Maryland, U.S., where he held the position of Chief Operating Officer at the NCI’s Center for Biomedical Informatics and Information Technology. Prior to joining the NCI, Dr. Covitz was Vice-President of Professional Services at InforMax, Inc., a leading bioinformatics software firm.

Dr. A. J. B. (Sandy) McEwan, Cross Cancer Institute, Alberta Health Services

Dr. Sandy McEwan is Lead, School of Cancer, Engineering and Imaging, and Professor and Chair, Department of Oncology, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta.  He is also Associate Director, Research, Cross Cancer Institute, Alberta Health Services.  He is a specialist in Nuclear Medicine with particular expertise and focus in Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and in Thyroid disorders.  He is active in research and development in radiopharmaceutical sciences.  His scientific publications and presentations total 289.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) was established by Alberta Health & Wellness in 2008 as the single health authority responsible for delivery of population health and health care services to the province of Alberta.  With respect to cancer, Alberta Health Services delivers cancer prevention and screening services through its Population and Public Health division.  AHS – Cancer Care is the division responsible for specialized cancer treatment and care services delivered through the two tertiary, four associate and eleven community cancer centres of the province, plus a number of community oncology programs.  For more information about Alberta Health Service, you may visit: http://www.albertahealthservices.ca/?from=cancer
